Message OSCE does not give the floor to Russia “for fear of hearing the truth”

Pro-Kremlin media write that at one of the OSCE meetings on security cooperation, the so-called ambassador of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Rodion Miroshnyk, was not allowed to attend the meeting. In the messages, the authors claim that the OSCE was “simply afraid” that a Russian representative might reveal “facts that are inconvenient for the Western public”. And they summarize that such actions are “russophobia”.

The analysts of the StopFake project analyzed the case and explained that the decision to not allow Miroshnyk to attend the meeting is solely due to the incompetence of the “ambassador”,  who is actually a collaborator and former press secretary of the ex-president and fugitive traitor Viktor Yanukovych.

In 2014, Miroshnyk cooperated with the Russian occupiers and became part of the Kremlin-controlled “administration” of captured Luhansk, a fictitious body. He has been wanted in Ukraine since 2017.

That is, the so-called russophobia is nothing more than a response to the actions of the Russian army, leadership and people. Russians and collaborators bear collective responsibility for the aggression against Ukraine, which they supported either with appropriate statements or silence. Worldwide condemnation and sanctions against the aggressor are the consequences of Russia’s criminal actions, and not vice versa, as Moscow is trying to convince everyone.

Manipulation West “coordinates” Ukrainian strikes on Russian military facilities

Russian media write about it. Like, if the West helps Ukraine with weapons, it can “help” with strikes on Russian airfields. This is manipulation.

Ukraine did not take responsibility for the attacks on the Russian military airfield “Enhels”. The United States and the countries of the European Union are not parties to the clashes: Russia is waging war exclusively against Ukraine.

As StopFake notes, disinformation about “US coordination of Ukrainian strikes against Russia” began to spread against the backdrop of increased attacks on Russian military airfields. On December 5 and 6, unidentified aircraft carried out a series of attacks on three Russian rear air bases: Diahiliev in the Riazan region, Enhels in the Saratov region and an airfield in Kursk. A repeated series of explosions happened at the Enhels airfield on December 26.

Ukraine has not officially claimed responsibility for the attack on the air bases from which Russia is bombing Ukrainian civilian cities. The White House and the Pentagon deny reports of US involvement in strikes on Russian air bases. Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh, commenting on the explosions at Russian military bases, noted that Ukraine is not coordinating with the United States any possible military operations against the occupiers.

Russian propaganda systematically spreads messages that are at war in Ukraine with the “collective West”, NATO, the OSCE or the United States. In this way, they are trying to create the illusion that they are fighting a much stronger enemy than the Ukrainian army, which they ridiculed.

Fake The OSCE is directly involved in the war

This statement was made by the Russian propagandist Serhii Lavrov. His appeal says that the OSCE is engaged in adjusting the fire on the territory of Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Like, this is another organization of the West, against which Russia is waging war. However, this is not true.

According to experts from the Center for Countering Disinformation, no facts or evidence were provided in the statement.

The OSCE is an organization aimed at developing political dialogue and cooperation in the field of security. Since 2014, after Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, the OSCE sent a Special monitoring mission to Ukraine. According to the Mission's reports, its activities in the temporarily occupied territories, in particular in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, were illegally obstructed by Russia.

Therefore, an organization that monitors the security situation and contributes to the settlement of the conflict cannot participate in the war.

The propagandists are spreading this fake to nourish their narrative of how Russia is at war against the collective West. In this way, they try to justify their defeats at the front.

Manipulation The Armed Forces fired at the office of the UN mission in Sievierodonetsk

The Russian mass media spread the news that the Ukrainian military fired on the "UN mission" in Sievierodonetsk with HIMARS. It is manipulation.

According to StopFake, the UN mission hasn`t been working in the city for more than 7 months. The day after the shelling, it was reported in the headquarters of the General Staff that on September 30, the Armed Forces hit 6 command posts of the Russians.

Now it is not known what exactly is in the former building of the UN mission, but fact-checkers found a video in which military equipment of the occupiers is standing near the building in which the UN mission was located until March 2022.

This may be one of the confirmations that the command post was located in the building. Russian propagandists spread headlines about the "shelling of the office of the UN mission" to promote the message that the Ukrainian military shells civilian objects.

Message Russia "has the right" to Ukrainian territories, since the West recognized the independence of Kosovo

The Russian media write about this regarding the words of Vasily Nebenzya, the permanent representative of Russia at the UN.

For example, Western delegations demonstrate double standards by denying residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine the right to self-determination. This situation allegedly has no difference from the exit of Kosovo from Serbia. Nebenzya referred to the decision of the International Court of Justice of the United Nations in 2008. He also said that annexing Ukrainian territories to Russia is more legal because of "referendums".

The referendum in Kosovo was held from September 26 to 30, 1991. It was boycotted by the Serbian minority living in the region. The turnout of Albanians was 87%, and 99% of them voted "for" independence. Kosovo Albanians were not in danger at that time. Yugoslavia no longer existed, and there was a foreign peacekeeping contingent in Serbia. Instead, in Ukraine, Russia held "referendums" in violation of international law and under the pressure of armed soldiers.

So there is no question of the legitimacy and voluntariness of the expression of will. Democratic countries unanimously declared their non-recognition of the results of the illegal "referendums" held by Russia in the temporarily occupied territories, even on the eve of their holding.

Since 2020, 97 states out of 193 (50%) UN member states have recognized the independence of Kosovo; 22 out of 27 (81%) member states of the European Union; 26 out of 30 (87%) NATO member states. Among those who didn`t recognize the independence of Kosovo were Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, and Ukraine.

The UN International Court of Justice has never recognized the independence of Kosovo. The court ruled that the declaration of independence adopted by the Assembly of Kosovo didn`t violate international law. At the same time, the court didn`t consider the legality of unilateral secession and the question of Kosovo's independence.

It is not the first time that Russia uses manipulative statements about the Western "policy of double standards", although it actively uses them itself. Earlier, propagandists wrote that accusations against Russia regarding the violation of the Budapest Memorandum are "impossible" because "Russia's opponents have repeatedly disrespected the fundamental norms of international law, the principles of the UN and the OSCE." The message was noticed by the fact-checkers of The Insider publication.
