A video is circulating on the American segment of Facebook and YouTube, which allegedly captures the moment when a Russian Su-57 aircraft shoots down NATO F-16 fighters in Ukraine. The Facebook user account that shared the video has the description “creator of the game video”. Also, some users asked if this was already the beginning of the Third World War and wrote that they “did not know that NATO was participating” in the war. It's fake.

The case was studied by Reuters fact-checkers. Pavel Kryzka, public relations manager for Bohemia Interactive, the creators of Arma 3, said in an email that the footage circulating on the Internet was taken from a modified Arma 3 game. Some social media users also recognized the game in the video, but others perceived the footage as real fights.

Thus, Russian propaganda want to show that the Russian “second army of the world” is powerful, therefore it wins on the battlefield, and also that Russia is at war with NATO on the territory of Ukraine. With such fakes, propagandists intimidate Westerners and seek to reduce assistance to Ukraine from Western partners. Earlier we talked about the manipulation that NATO could agree to send troops to the territory of Ukraine.

Pro-Kremlin media disseminated information that Ukrainians allegedly included Pope Francis in the Peacemaker database, which publishes enemies of Ukraine and is a center for researching signs of crimes against Ukraine’s national security, peace, human security and international law. Pope Francis allegedly came to this site due to the fact that he called on Russians “not to abandon the legacy of the majestic empire”. It's fake.

The case was investigated by fact-checkers of the Center for Countering Disinformation. The propagandists came up with this news, because there is no mention of Pope Francis on the website of the Peacemaker. That is, it was not included in the database.

Thus, Russian propaganda is trying to discredit Ukraine and worsen its relations with Western partners and world leaders on the basis of religion. Earlier, Detector Media denied the fake that Pope Francis called for the release of Pavlo Lebed, Metropolitan of the UOC-MP, from arrest.

Russian media spread information that Ukraine allegedly blamed China and the TikTok social network for the failure of the counteroffensive. They say that the Armed Forces of Ukraine “prevented the attack of Chinese hackers” and social networks. However, this is a fake.

Specialists of the StopFake project drew attention to it. They found out that Ukraine did not make any statements about the “failure of the counteroffensive” and accused China. The fake was created on the basis of a long interview with Ukrainian cybersecurity expert Vitalii  Yakushev on the My — Ukraine channel. In particular, he did not make a statement about a counteroffensive, but spoke only about security in the digital world. Yakushev noted that the TikTok application has access to all information on the smartphones of both ordinary users and military personnel. Representatives of Western security services and governments of Western countries have repeatedly noted that the Chinese company ByteDance, which is the owner of the social network, is subject to a number of Chinese laws in the field of national security, obliging businesses to cooperate with state intelligence.

By creating and spreading fakes about the counteroffensive, propagandists want to create a false impression that the Ukrainians are losing on the battlefield. Detector Media has repeatedly written about how Russian propaganda lies about the Ukrainian military and the situation at the front, including the fact that Ukraine allegedly killed a Russian journalist with American cluster shells.

Social networks and Russian media disseminate information that the outbreak of a dangerous legionellosis disease in the Polish city of Rzeszow is allegedly associated with Ukrainian refugees living in a local aid center. However, this is fake.

Specialists in the StopFake project drew attention to it. They found out that this statement is unfounded, since it is not yet known what exactly became the source of the infection. The World Health Organization reports that there have been no cases of direct human-to-human transmission as of now. Poland's Internal Security Agency is investigating whether the outbreak could have been a sabotage. Since mid-August, an outbreak of legionellosis has been detected in Rzeszow, 100 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, which has killed 8 people and infected more than 100. Its causative agent, legionella, infects lung tissue and leads to the development of a severe form of pneumonia.

By creating and spreading such fakes, propagandists want to discredit Ukrainian refugees. Like, they are only the cause of problems in European countries. Detector Media has repeatedly written about how Russian propaganda humiliates them, in particular, as in a fake that Ukrainian refugees in Germany allegedly beat a Slovene because they confused the Slovenian flag with the Russian one.

Information is spreading on social networks that Ukrainian refugees in Germany allegedly beat a Slovene because he was holding the flag of Slovenia, which they confused with the Russian one. There is also another version of the event, according to which a German of Slovenian origin hung the flag of Slovenia near his house. A video with him got on the Internet, after which the Ukrainians allegedly beat him. At the same time, propagandists use a video that shows the logo of the European edition of Euronews. However, this is fake.

Specialists in the StopFake project drew attention to it. They could not find a single fact confirming that this event actually happened. In addition, there is not a single mention of such an incident in open sources and German media, as well as on Euronews itself. StopFake notes that this story was only spread by foreign propaganda resources and telegram channels.

By creating and spreading such fakes, propagandists want to discredit Ukrainian refugees. Like, they are uneducated and ungrateful, because they attack everyone with flags that resemble the colors of a Russian. Detector Media has repeatedly written about how Russian propaganda humiliates Ukrainian refugees, in particular, as a manipulation that a Ukrainian refugee allegedly destroyed a monument to the Polish military.

Such information was disseminated by anonymous telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric. The reports note that in Europe they decided to “get rid” of Ukrainian refugees, so they will allegedly be mobilized and subsequently sent to the front. The authors add, they say, this applies, first of all, to all men of military age. It looks like they will be deported. It is not true.

Fact-checkers of the StopFake project investigated this case and explained that the “deportation of men liable for military service” is not possible at all, since there is no legal basis. The point is that Ukrainian diplomatic institutions cannot deport Ukrainians for mobilization, just as structures in the EU are not authorized to form any units from Ukrainians on their territories. That is, no such mechanism simply exists.

In addition, experts added that the Border Guard Service of Ukraine can investigate crimes of illegal border crossing under martial law. And, for example, trying to return a man liable for military service to Ukraine if he illegally crossed the border.

The EU is consolidated in its position that they do not deport anyone against their will. According to EU law, all Ukrainians who arrived in the region after the start of a full-scale invasion fall under the protection of the Temporary Protection Directive.

By spreading such a fake, propagandists are trying to convince that there is no one left to fight in Ukraine and the country's leadership resorts to tricks and wants to mobilize Ukrainian refugees.

Such information is disseminated in the Nigerian media segment. Reports say Volodymyr Zelenskyi allegedly purchased a villa for his mother-in-law, Olha Kyiashko. In the material, the media provide evidence of the purchase of the villa, in particular, they show the relevant documents on the purchase. They also add a “video of investigative journalist” Mohammed Al-Alawi. Subsequently, this information was disseminated by anonymous Russian propaganda telegram channels, reporting that Zelenskyi makes all purchases “from the pockets of taxpayers”. It's a lie.

First of all, the “material-investigation” includes many factual errors. The authors provide a photo of an alleged document on the purchase of real estate, where the future owner of the house is indicated. So the document says that he owns the house of Olha KIYASHKO, although according to the current standards of the state migration service, the transliteration on all documents would look like this - Olha KYIASHKO. The authors did not prove the authenticity of such a “document” and did not explain where they got it from. What the authors were asked more than once in the comments under the video. That is, the contract for the purchase of a villa, at least, does not exactly apply to Olha Kyiashko.

Moreover, regarding the “journalistic investigation video”, it was published on a YouTube channel created a few days before the information about the purchase was thrown out. And the post of the investigative journalist himself raises many questions. Since, upon request in the search engine, Mohammed Al-Alawi, the investigative journalist gives only a link to the material about the purchase of the villa and no additional information about this person. In general, the text is full of value judgments and false information.

Russian propaganda is trying to portray Ukraine as a cradle of corruption in order to devalue and level Ukrainian intentions to fight corruption and further European integration measures. Allegedly, Ukrainian officials are buying up real estate for misappropriated funds from Western partners. In addition, the fight against corruption is one of the requirements of European integration. By dispersing such fakes, propagandists are trying to show that corruption cannot be fixed in Ukraine, which is why it will be taken into the EU or NATO.

Such information was disseminated on social networks, in particular on anonymous telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric. Reports say Ukraine plans to lower the draft age to 20. Like, such an initiative was introduced by the General Staff and it was supported everywhere.

Fact-checkers of the StopFake project investigated the case and found out that such information is not true. This is just stuffing, because in Ukraine they do not plan to reduce the age for mobilization. Analysts also cited one of the interviews of NSDC Secretary Oleksii Danilov to Ukrainian Radio as an example. During it, the official assured that no mobilization rules would be changed.

That is, there is no reason to believe that mobilization will be carried out in Ukraine from the age of 20. The current age for mobilization is 27. In March 2023, the Ukrainian Parliament introduced a bill to lower the age to 25. However, the bill has not yet been signed by Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

Russian propaganda has repeatedly speculated on total mobilization in Ukraine. Thus, propagandists want to distort reality and convince everyone that Ukrainian officials are constantly resorting to tricks to mobilize people more and more.

Anonymous telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric and the Lithuanian media spread information that on August 19, the Russian army fired cruise missiles at an alleged meeting place of NATO officers in Chernihiv. Among them were many Polish and Lithuanian soldiers. It's fake.

The case was investigated by the fact-checkers of the 15min project. On August 19, the Russian army hit the center of Chernihiv with an Iskander-M ballistic missile, including the drama theater, which hosted the announced exhibition of drones. As a result of the Russian attack, 7 people were killed; 144 people, including 15 children, were injured, Volodymyr Zelenskyi said in a video message.

At first, Russian propaganda disseminated information exclusively about SBU specialists in Chernihiv, and the version about Lithuanians or Poles - high-ranking NATO officers appeared much later. However, there was no meeting of NATO soldiers in the theater. In a 15min comment, a representative of the Lithuanian army said: “Officers of the Lithuanian army do not participate in hostilities in Ukraine, so this information is not true”.

There is a Foreign Legion in Ukraine, but the alliance is not directly involved in hostilities in Ukraine. If any of the NATO countries entered the territory of Ukraine, the forces of the alliance would come into direct conflict with Russia.

Thus, Russian propaganda promotes the message that NATO and Russia are fighting on the territory of Ukraine, and also tries to justify missile strikes on the territory of our state. This is a continuation of the narrative that the Russian military only targets military facilities in order to whitewash itself and show that they allegedly do not commit war crimes against Ukrainians. Earlier, we talked about the message that Ukrainian officials pass off military facilities as civilian ones.

Russian propagandists spread the information that “it was definitely Ukraine that killed Pryhozhyn (...) This is a terrorist attack by Ukraine on Independence Day. Russian propaganda accuses Ukraine of selling an Embraer business jet owned by Yevhenii Pryhozhyn, on August 23, 2023, near the village of Kuzhenkino, Bolohivskyi district, Tver region. It's fake.

During a press conference with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine had nothing to do with the crash of a private plane in the Tver region of Russia, in whose passenger lists Yevhenii Pryhozhyn  was.

Also, the American Institute for the Study of War reported on its website that “Putin almost certainly ordered the Russian military command to shoot down Yevhenii Pryhozhyn’s plane”. The President of Russia could take revenge on Pryhozhyn for the attempted rebellion that took place at the end of June 2023.

By spreading this version of the death of the leader of the Wagner group, Russian propaganda is trying to accuse Ukraine of interfering in the internal affairs of Russia and shifting responsibility for the death of Pryhozhyn  to the Ukrainians. Also, the Russians are trying to divert attention from domestic political problems within Russia. Earlier, we told how a video of a plane crash in the Voronezh region of Russia was circulated on the network and stated that this was supposedly the moment of shooting down a plane carrying Yevhenii Pryhozhyn.

Information is spreading in the Kremlin media and the Russian segment of social networks that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz allegedly announced that the West was tired of the war in Ukraine and was ready to make concessions to Russia. It is not true.

The fact-checkers of the Center for Strategic Communications drew attention to the case. The statement referred to by the Russian propaganda was made on August 18 in Salzburg at a press conference with Austrian Chancellor Neghammer. Olaf Scholz stated: “The Russian invasion of Ukraine presents us with serious new problems... We will all have to adapt to this new geopolitical reality and draw the necessary conclusions... This war in Europe calls on all of us to critically analyze our self-image, and sometimes to be willing to make uncomfortable decisions.

Scholz said that weapons are now being delivered to Ukraine so that they can defend themselves against Russia. By “uncomfortable decisions” the German Chancellor meant precisely the supply of weapons, because this is contrary to the “long-term principles of German policy”.

Thus, Russian propagandists are trying to discredit Germany and embroil Ukraine with their allies. Russian propaganda spreads the opinion that the West is tired of the war, so Ukraine will have to give in to Russia. Earlier, we talked about the manipulation that children in Germany are allegedly forced to work and give funds to help Ukraine.

On the Russian segment of the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, and anonymous telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric, they are distributing a photo of a billboard allegedly installed in France in honor of Ukraine's Independence Day. It shows a map of Ukraine without Crimea, and the colors of the national flag are reversed. It's fake.

The case was investigated by the fact-checkers of the StopFake project. Using image search tools, they determined that this billboard is indeed in Copenhagen and does not have a map of Ukraine on it. And Ukrinform journalists found that the original image was taken from the brand book of the Danish company AFA JCDecaux. Moreover, French President Emmanuel Macron, during his speech at the Crimean Platform on August 23, once again stressed that he does not recognize the annexation of Crimea.

Russian media and anonymous telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric, and  the Russian segment of the X social network, formerly known as Twitter, spread the information that “Ukraine should not rejoice”, since it allegedly will receive F-16 fighters only after the end of the war. They link to material published on the Dutch site GeenStijl. It's fake.

The case was investigated by the fact-checkers of the StopFake project. The political leadership of the Netherlands has repeatedly stated that Ukraine will receive the F-16 after the necessary conditions are met. A press release on the government website says that Denmark and the Netherlands will be able to transfer the F-16 after training Ukrainian pilots, establishing logistics processes and building the necessary infrastructure. According to the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Kajsa Ollongren, the training of the Ukrainian military will most likely last from 6 to 8 months.

Regarding the Dutch site GeenStijl, which Russian propaganda links to, it is one of the popular political blogs among skeptics. The blog has been involved in scandals more than once, and in the past has opposed the Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine.

Thus, Russian propaganda is trying to discredit Western partners and sow discouragement among the Ukrainian military and civilians. Like, the event allocates assistance, but not on time, so it will not be possible to win the war against Russia. The Kremlin media, citing the Polish edition of Mysl Polska, disseminated information that over 10,000 Poles died in Ukraine during the 1.5 years of the war against Russia - reservists, military personnel who were sent to war, calling them volunteers. It's fake.

The case was studied by the fact-checkers of the Center for Strategic Communications. There are no publications on this topic on the Mysl Polska website, although the publication has repeatedly published Russian fakes, but journalist Mateusz Piskorski denied the information, saying: “I explain to my Russian colleagues: the material they allegedly quote does not exist. It is necessary to check the sources, and not risk the image of those few Polish media that objectively write about the current war and do not join the choir of russophobes”. He also added that they have no information about the losses of the Polish military, moreover, according to him, even the Polish Ministry of Defense does not know them.

They refer to the Russian propagandist Semen Pehov. Prokopenko was allegedly taken prisoner near the village of Mala Tavolzhanka. It's fake.

Also, there is no settlement with the name Mala Tavolzhanka, which is similar to the name Tavilzhanka, a village in the Dvorichanskyi settlement society of the Kupiansk district of the Kharkiv region. In addition, on August 23, on the Day of the State Flag of Ukraine, a fresh photo with Prokopenko appeared on the official pages of Azov.

Anonymous telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric spread information that on August 25-26, 2023, an air show will be held in Kharkiv on the occasion of Aviation Day, where they will show the latest drone developments. Also, allegedly, there may be provocations by the Ukrainian military. It's fake.

The case was investigated by fact-checkers of the Center for Countering Disinformation. The organizers of the air show have publicly stated that the event has been postponed indefinitely. That is, there will be no air show on August 25 and 26 this year.

Thus, Russian propaganda is trying to intimidate the Ukrainians and shift the responsibility for the future crimes of the Russians to the victim. Earlier, Detector Media analyzed what propagandists wrote about Russia's strike on Chernihiv.

In the American segment of Facebook, a message was circulated, which noted: “Official statement - Putin was killed in the Kremlin! The President of Russia has been hospitalized!”. The message also contains a video criticizing Putin and Russia, which started the war in Ukraine. It's fake.

The case was investigated by the Politfact fact-checker. The post was flagged as part of Meta's efforts to combat fake news and misinformation. There is no confirmation of the death of the Russian dictator or reliable official reports. There have also been no recent reports of Putin being hospitalized.

Earlier we talked about the fact that at a meeting with the leaders of African countries, Putin presented a fake “agreement on the neutrality of Ukraine”.

In the pro-Kremlin media and in the Russian segment of Facebook, they spread information that the Ukrainian military administration allegedly fled from the city of Kupiansk, Kharkiv region. The news appeared against the backdrop of fakes that the Russians allegedly took Synkivka. It's fake.

The case was investigated by the fact-checkers of the StopFake project. There is no information on the official pages of the Kupiansk city military administration and the Kharkiv regional military administration that the administration left the city. Andrii Besedin, the head of the city administration of Kupiansk, told the fact-checkers: “Everyone is at their workplaces. We are working as normal”. And the speaker of the Kharkiv regional military administration, Olena Shapoval, on the air of Radio Svoboda (Liberty) said that everyone was in their places.

Also, after the publication of information about the flight of the administration, Andrii Besedin published a post about a working meeting with photographs from his office. Also on August 21, he posted a video from the city center near the memorial sign of the defender groundhog - the symbol of Kupiansk.

Thus, Russian propaganda is trying to spread panic among Ukrainians and cause distrust in the authorities, saying that the Ukrainian military administration left them and Ukraine does not need them. Anonymous telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric have circulated a photograph of a Wagner fighter allegedly standing on the Polish border. It's fake.

The case was investigated by the VoxCheck fact-checker. They determined that the photo had been edited with a photo editor, adding a Wagner chevron and a Russian flag. In fact, the original photo shows a Polish soldier. This fact was determined by the Google reverse. Also, Stanislav Zharyn, the Commissioner of the Polish government for the security of the information space, said that the photo is not real and can be used to spread panic.

Using the relocation of the Wagner group and leader Pryhozhyn to Belarus after an unsuccessful rebellion in Russia, Russian propaganda is trying to sow panic and create pretexts for an attack on Poland. Earlier, we refuted the fake that Poland is asking to open the border with Russia for trade.

In the Russian segment of Facebook, they distributed a screenshot of supposedly news from the Deutsche Welle website with the heading “Forced mobilization in Ukrainian regions controlled by Kyiv may be a special operation of the Kremlin”. They also write that such publications are an example of the work of “Western propaganda”, which is trying to whitewash Ukraine and shift responsibility to Russia. It's fake.

The fact-checkers of the StopFake project drew attention to the case. The image has been specially edited to spread misinformation. In fact, there is no such publication either on the Russian version of the Deutsche Welle website or in other languages. The publication published only articles about forced mobilization in the territories occupied by Russia. Olesia Halkina is also listed as the author of the news, but the name of this person cannot be found in open sources.

Anonymous telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric are circulating the alleged cover of the American magazine Chronicles about Russia's superiority over Ukraine in aviation. The picture shows a Russian fighter jet, a ghost hunter, hunting down the Ukrainian ghost of Kyiv. It's fake.

The case was investigated by the VoxCheck fact-checker. There is no issue of the American Chronicles magazine with this cover. The image indicates that this is the August edition, but the Chronicles website, which has covers for every issue of the magazine, does not have such a cover. And the August issue was dedicated to the US elections.

Russian propaganda systematically publishes fake covers of world publications. Thus, propagandists seek to show that their rhetoric is also repeated in the West, and the whole world is laughing at Ukraine, and Russia is winning the war. Earlier, Detector Media refuted the fake that the German magazine Handelsblatt depicted a destroyed Leopard tank on the cover.

Russian media broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric and in the Ukrainian segment of Facebook are distributing a document in which servicemen of the 123rd Territorial defense forces brigade are forced to agree to cremation in case of death. The bogus order states that such a need arose as a result of the “high number of brigade casualties” and “limited logistics to the rear areas”. It's fake.

The case was investigated by the fact-checkers of the StopFake project. They checked the “document” with the InVID photo analysis tool and found that the print image differed from other text in terms of compression, so it was probably added in a graphics editor. Also, the wrong EDRPOU number of the military unit is indicated, and the signature of the commander of the unit, Colonel Roman Tokarenko, looks different.

On the Facebook page, the 123th Territorial defense forces brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also reported that the document was fake. StopFake fact-checkers also took a comment from the brigade, representatives said: “This order is the IPSO of the occupying state, aimed at demoralizing the personnel of the brigade and Ukrainian society. The command of military unit A 7052 never gave any such orders”.

Thus, the Russian propaganda is trying to sow panic among civilians and military personnel, saying that Ukraine has many losses at the front. Russian propaganda media are spreading information that Poland is allegedly asking to open the border for trade with Russia. After the cessation of trade, the country was allegedly gripped by unemployment. It's fake.

The case was studied by the fact-checkers of the Center for Strategic Communications. In fact, Poland's unemployment rate has fallen to 5.3%, the lowest in 33 years. In Poland, the borders for Russian trucks were closed, but this did not affect the country's economy, because it is focused on trade with Europe. Anonymous telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric are spreading a fake document on behalf of the Ternopil public utility. It threatens to turn off gas and hot water to conscripts who do not appear at the local Territorial center of recruitment and social support. This “letter” also states that shutdowns will be carried out in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On mobilization preparation and mobilization”. The “letter” bears the signature of Oleksandr Andriyovych Popov, director of the Komenergo-Ternopil 1 company, which is engaged in the improvement of apartment buildings in Ternopil. It's fake.

They took comments from representatives of the Ternopil Territorial center of recruitment and social support, who refuted this document. They also noted that the regional Territorial centers of recruitment and social support are not involved in mobilization notifications - the mobilization process on the ground is carried out by city and district departments. Errors indicate that the “letter” is a fake. For example, instead of the word “according to” in Ukrainian, the Russian propaganda wrote “according to” in Russian, and the text itself indicates the date by which one needs to come to the Territorial center of recruitment and social support - January 18, 2023.
