Here we document all narratives, messages, and tactics, which Russia is using from February 17th, 2022. Reminder: the increasing of shelling and fighting by militants happened on the 17th of February 2022 on the territory of Ukraine. Russian propaganda blames Ukraine for these actions.

Manipulation The commander of Azov said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are preparing to capture small Russian cities

This thesis was circulated on social networks, in particular on telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric. The reports say that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are preparing to capture small Russian cities. This was allegedly reported by Bohdan Krotevych, the acting commander of the Azov brigade. The authors refer to Bohdan Krotevych's interview with the Washington Post. This is manipulation.

The fact-checkers of the VoxCheck project drew attention to the case, which determined that Bohdan Krotevych suggested that Ukraine could capture Russian cities, but did not declare the readiness of the Ukrainian command to take such steps. In the interview itself, Bohdan Krotevych talked about the First Chechen-Russian War and their strategy to capture small Russian towns in order to use them as leverage for Russia to return the occupied territories. He laid out his thoughts and suggested that Ukraine might do the same. However, he did not state this as a fait accompli.

Neither the Washington Post journalists nor Bohdan Krotevych claimed that this was the position of the military or political leadership of Ukraine. The counteroffensive plans are known to a limited circle of people.

Newspeak How Russia blurs reality with a newspeak: “everything is according to plan”

The Russian troops have a number of systemic problems that are exposed by the aggression against Ukraine. Gaps in planning are on the list of critical issues. In particular, very often these plans have to be changed due to the worsening situation at the front for the Russians. In addition, during planning, the Russian military command often does not take into account important details that can completely change the balance of power in a particular battle.

However, propagandists cannot say this directly. It is important for them to maintain the illusion that management knows what they are doing. Therefore, even when the situation becomes chaotic, propaganda continues to say that everything is “according to plan”. The phenomenon is regular, as propagandists resort to their “plan” whenever the Ukrainian army launches a counteroffensive. Moreover, quite often they do not specify what kind of plan it is and who created it.

An example is the February events at Vuhledar, where Russian troops suffered perhaps the largest losses since the beginning of a full-scale war. During the debacle, propagandists continued to claim that the Russians were winning and that everything was going according to plan.

By using this wording, the propagandists reinforce the illusion that Russian actions are “strategic”. As if the Russians outwitted the Ukrainians again. In fact, the Russian army is afraid of shame, which completely crosses out all its “heroism”.

Manipulation More and more “ordinary” Americans are fleeing the US to Russia

This thesis was circulated on social networks, in particular on telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric. Reports say that the number of people wishing to choose permanent residence in Russia is growing. Most of them are believers who are close in spirit to the moral values protected by Russia, but long destroyed in America. The authors refer to an interview with Mykola Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of Russia. This is manipulation.

The case was noticed by the fact-checkers of The Insider project, they found that such a thesis is manipulative and untrue. For example, according to the statistics of the Russian Foreign Ministry in 2021, 322 US citizens received Russian citizenship. In 2022 - 262 people. That is, the number of people is not increasing, but rather decreasing. At the same time, it should be understood that data from official Russian institutions can be defiled and deliberately increased.

By spreading this manipulation, propagandists are trying to convince that Russia is a piece of heaven on earth or a “safe haven” that everyone can get into. Saying that Russia wants to protect all the people of the world, it has committed and is committing war crimes. In particular, on the territory of Ukraine, since the beginning of the war in 2014, Russia has been causing devastation: destroying Ukrainian cities and villages, killing thousands of Ukrainians, in particular children. Also, propagandists build an imaginary curtain between the whole world and Russia, saying that there are enemies on the other side. Consequently, they instill hatred in Russians for almost all peoples.

Fake Volodymyr Oliynyk, Commander of Territorial Defense Units, was killed in Kyiv

Such information was disseminated in social networks, in particular, on telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric. Reports say that Major General Volodymyr Oliynyk, commander of the territorial defense units, was killed in Kyiv. Like, the Ukrainian TRO is stupid, that the Russians quickly managed to neutralize the enemy. It is not true.

The fact-checkers of the VoxCheck project drew attention to the case, which determined that the news was invented and that the commander of the UAF’s terrorist defense with that name does not exist. In open sources, fact-checkers were unable to find information about a Ukrainian major general with that name and surname. Moreover, the website of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has up-to-date data on the military command: now the Commander of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is Major General Ihor Tantsiura.

By spreading such a fake, propagandists seek to undermine the morale of Ukrainians. Like, the Russians are destroying the military and no one will stop them, and Ukraine will soon be left without worthy defenders. However, the propagandists lie and try to make wishful thinking come true.

Disclosure Verified Twitter accounts are spreading misinformation about an imminent nuclear strike on Kyiv

Verified Twitter accounts are spreading misinformation about an imminent nuclear strike on Kyiv.

This was told by the journalists of the Vice edition. They explained that after the explosion over the Kremlin, the so-called official Twitter accounts began to spread misinformation about the nuclear attack on Kyiv.

For example, a pseudo-verified account called DEFCONWarningSystem posted a post explaining that “we are currently evaluating rumors of nuclear movements in Russia”. Although this account has nothing to do with the real official agency.

After that, Twitter did not remove the verified checkmark in the account. If one clicks on the checkmark, the following message will pop up: “The account is not associated with any government agency and does not represent the alarm status of any military unit. Users should draw their own conclusions and not rely on account information”.

At the same time, this account also spreads apocalyptic information about Christian movements. That is, this account invents conspiracy theories. It has been verified by Twitter.

Another twitter “verified” account said that the authors had heard about the movement of nuclear bombers, and assured that these reports were “grossly unconfirmed”.

Although these accounts are unofficial, someone could write on their behalf. There was no confirmed information about the so-called nuclear strike on Kyiv. The authors of the channels began to talk about the so-called rumors, which also did not exist.

Fake Ukraine collects DNA samples of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers to create biological weapons

Such information was disseminated in social networks, in particular, on telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric. Reports say that Ukraine is collecting DNA samples from Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters to create biological weapons in American laboratories. The authors of the messages add that in this way the United States is trying to destroy all the Slavs. In support of this information, the authors refer to the statement of US Air Force  Captain (ret.) Stanislav Krapyvnyk. It is not true.

The fact-checkers of the VoxCheck project drew attention to this case and determined that there is no official confirmation of how Ukraine is going to produce or has already produced biological weapons. Even at the beginning of the large-scale invasion, Russian statements about biological weapons were refuted in the United States, and later in the UN.

In 2005, the Department of Health signed a cooperation agreement with the United States on the Biothreat Reduction Program. Therefore, Ukrainian laboratories are working to detect and reduce the threat of dangerous pathogens.

In addition, the fact-checkers found out that Stanislav Krapyvnyk himself was born in Luhansk and now lives in Russia. No information about him was found in the foreign segment of social networks. Information about officer service in the US Army can only be found in the Russian segment.
