Fake Ukraine can carry out provocations with biological weapons “under a false flag”

Propaganda resources are disseminating information that allegedly the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police of Ukraine “under a false flag” may resort to provocations related to biological weapons. The head of the radiation, chemical and biological protection forces of Russia, Ihor Kyrylov, said that according to the scenario, first in the Mykolaiv region the emergence of cases of infectious disease with the bird influenza virus will be recorded, and then Russia will be blamed for this. It's fake.

The case was documented by the fact-checkers from the Center for Countering Disinformation. They found out that the information about provocations has nothing to do with reality, that is, fake. In addition, over the past 20 years, neither the Ukrainian side nor the WHO have reported cases of human infection with bird flu in Ukraine.

This case of disinformation primarily targets ordinary Russian citizens and fuels the Russian narrative about biological weapons in Ukraine. Previously, we refuted information that the authorities in Odesa were destroying traces of US military biological laboratories.

Fake Ukrainians demanded money from the family of a dead Hamas hostage

Pro-Russian resources claim that allegedly “swindlers from Ukraine” blackmailed the family of German and Israeli citizen Shani Luk, who was kidnapped by Hamas militants. After it became known about the girl’s kidnapping, the Ukrainians began calling her family on behalf of Hamas and demanding a ransom of 500 thousand euros. The police who investigated the case of the already deceased Shani Luk seemed to come to this conclusion. Propagandists referred to a screenshot of “news published by the German newspaper WDR”. It's fake.

The fact-checkers of the StopFake project began to analyze the information. After independently searching for this news on the website of the German publication WDR, they found out that such material was not published on this news resource. A Google search also did not yield any results about the alleged ransom demand from “Ukrainian scammers”. In addition, there was no mention of a police investigation into this case in reputable German or other media.

Russian propaganda, using the author's style of a German newspaper, tried to justify the actions of Hamas and denigrate Ukraine. The Kremlin is trying to demonize Ukraine in the eyes of ordinary Russian citizens in order to justify the war crimes of its army in Ukraine. Also, by spreading these types of fakes, propagandists hope to weaken international support for Ukraine so that it will not be able to finance defense needs. Previously, we denied information that allegedly former porn actress Mia Khalifa thanked Ukraine for helping Hamas.

Fake Ukraine’s first “children’s brigade” is being formed in the Sumy region

Pro-Russian resources claim that in the Sumy region they plan to form the first brigade in Ukraine, which will consist of minors. Like, in Shostka, the local military registration and enlistment office, apparently, instead of sending boys 14-16 years old to paramilitary courses, began to form them into the 153rd territorial defense brigade. It's fake.

The case was analyzed by the fact-checkers of the StopFake project. They contacted the 117th separate territorial defense brigade formed in the Sumy region, and they, for their part, confirmed that the information about the mobilization of children was fake. Moreover, there are no 153 brigades in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but there is a 153 separate territorial defense battalion. On the social networks of this battalion one can find photographs of its soldiers and make sure that there are no teenagers in it. In Ukraine, all citizens aged 18 to 60 who are capable of performing their military duty are subject to mobilization, except for exceptions provided by law. There is no talk of any mobilization of minors in Ukraine.

Pro-Kremlin propagandists are trying to promote the narrative that supposedly in Ukraine there are not enough people at the front, and therefore the Ukrainian government is resorting to radical methods - recruiting children into the ranks of the army. Previously, we refuted the fake that allegedly the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustam Umierov called for the mobilization of teenagers.

Fake A Ukrainian charitable foundation is looking for a preacher of “LGBT propaganda”

Such information was disseminated on social networks, in particular on telegram channels disseminating pro-Kremlin rhetoric. The reports say that the Ukrainian charitable foundation BF Free is looking for a person who preaches “LGBT ideology”. The authors of the message report that the fund’s employees allegedly published such a vacancy on the Ukrainian job search site Work.ua. Photo evidence is added to publications - a screenshot of the vacancy. It is not true.

The fact-checkers of the Georgian Myth Detector project began to analyze the case and found out that the charitable foundation did not create such a vacancy and was not looking for a single “LGBT preacher”. They wrote about this on their pages on social networks. In their posts, the organizations emphasize that the main purpose of the fake news is to discredit their activities. The specialists also checked whether the vacancy actually existed on the job search site. According to the search results, they did not record this. It is most likely that the screenshot was compiled using Photoshop.

There is simply no LGBT propaganda. In our Newspeak section, we explained why a terrorist country is horrified by diversity and cherishes exclusively “traditional values” among its citizens. In short, Moscow shows how being part of the LGBTQIA community is considered unacceptable, discrediting a person or why a person is considered “wrong”. Consumers of propaganda may be under the false impression that everything related to LGBT people is negative. Homosexuality is as natural as heterosexuality.

Russian propaganda presents any attempts by Ukraine to create a tolerant environment as a direct threat to people. Allegedly, they will suffer from the dominance of “Sodom”, which is why, according to the Kremlin’s conclusions, Ukrainians are being turned into homosexuals. We described the horrors of Western “homodictatorship” and how Europe influences Ukraine in a large study about homophobia on social networks.

By the way, read how Russia is trying to protect children from the “undesirable influence of LGBT people” here. Find out how it also justifies its invasion as an “LGBT invasion” in a study based on the results of an analysis of messages during the year of a full-scale invasion.

Fake Israel calls on Ukrainians to join the IDF

Pro-Kremlin media are distributing a video of an alleged advertising video on YouTube, in which a military man in an Israeli army uniform is supposedly campaigning in Ukrainian to join the IDF - the Israeli Defense Forces - and fight against Hamas. It's a lie.

The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council analyzed this case and found that such advertising from the official representative of the Israeli Ministry of Defense does not exist. It was compiled: after all, using a reverse search on Google, experts found that to create a fake advertising video, the authors used a TikTok video from the official account of the Israeli Defense Forces on this social network. And later a voice in Ukrainian was superimposed on the video.

Let us recall that the Institute for the Study of War’s statement on October 7 said that the Kremlin is actively using the Hamas attack on Israel for information operations aimed at weakening US and Western support for Ukraine. And the thesis about “mobilizing people to Israel” is used by fake bots to, first of all, convince that the Ukrainian leadership sees only military force in men and women - and officials, say, will use this for their own purposes. Even for mobilization to other countries.

Previously, we have already documented a propaganda campaign, supposedly Ukrainians were given draft notices to mobilize into Israeli volunteer battalions.

Fake In New York, they show an advertisement for a runny nose spray with Zelenskyi as an animated character

Such information was disseminated on social networks, in particular, on telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric. Reports say that VICKS allegedly launched an ad for a nasal spray in New York City featuring an animated character who “looks like Volodymyr Zelenskyi”. The authors of the message add a video where the hero strongly inhales air and then explodes. The video ends with the slogan: “VICKS helps increase the capabilities of your nose!”. It's a lie.

The VoxCheck fact-checkers analyzed the case and found that the VICKS company reported that they did not run this advertisement, but rather a compiled video. After all, no media came out with this news, and the video was only distributed on social networks in the Russian segment. In fact, experts used a reverse search on Google to discover the location of the likely advertisement. The fake video also contains other advertisements: for example, on the screen nearby they advertise the Amazon Freevee platform, where one can watch the series Jury Duty. Although the film was still released in April 2023. It is unlikely that it will be advertised 6 months later.

We have repeatedly documented hoaxes involving fake graffiti or covers on foreign magazines, newspaper columns or advertisements. Thus, propagandists seek to show that their rhetoric (for example, that Zelenskyi is hated by the whole world) is also repeated in the West. So it may seem to readers that the public is really dissatisfied with Ukraine. And especially when the authors use elements of popular culture, hinting that people are mocking the situation in Ukraine, and that the Ukrainian agenda for Europe is a reason to laugh.

Fake In Ukraine, people with disabilities are taught to be sappers in order to be send to the front

In the Russian segment of social networks, information is being spread that in Ukraine they have started issuing vouchers for sapper training to people with disabilities, supposedly “sending them to fight”. It's a lie.

The VoxCheck analysts took up this case and informed that in October 2023, the Ukrainian State Employment Service increased the list of professions and specialties for which one  can receive a voucher, that is, payment for training. The list, in particular, includes the profession of sapper. And, in fact, training vouchers will be issued to specific people, for example, persons with disabilities. Other categories of citizens can receive a training voucher: internally displaced persons (IDPs), participants in combat operations (UCD), people injured as a result of war, etc.

Moreover, we are talking specifically about humanitarian demining, which takes place outside the combat zone. This is a long-term process aimed at creating a safe living environment for civilian residents. Military demining, on the contrary, is carried out directly in the combat zone. For example, when the enemy retreats, military sappers are already doing this.

Read also our documented case: in Ukraine, they want to abolish the status of a person with a disability in order to mobilize more people

Fake There may be blackouts in Ukraine in November even without shelling

Some Ukrainian media have spread information that in Ukraine in November it seems they can turn off the lights even without Russian attacks on energy facilities. Journalists refer to Serhii Nahorniak, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy Issues. It's fake.

The case was studied by the fact-checkers of the Center for Strategic Communications. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine denied this information. “Shutdowns are possible only in case of massive enemy shelling and, as a result, damage to energy equipment”, the Ministry of Energy said in a statement. They also emphasize that “the electricity produced by Ukrainian power plants is quite sufficient to meet the needs of consumers”.

Previously, Detector Media refuted the fake news that power outage schedules would be introduced in Ukraine starting October 1.

Fake Ukrainian first-graders marched to the song “We are killing Russians” at the festive ceremony

Anonymous telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric are distributing a video in which Ukrainian first-graders allegedly march to the song “We’re killing Russianns” on Knowledge Day. Russian propaganda also states that the subject Defense of Ukraine is designed to instill in children neo-Ukrainian ideology and hatred of Russians. It's fake.

The case was investigated by the fact-checker of the VoxCheck project. They found the original video, dated September 2, 2022, and featuring a different song. That is, Russian propaganda edited the video and superimposed the song “We’re killing the Russians” on it.

Regarding the subject Defense of Ukraine - it has long existed in the school curriculum and until February 26, 2020 it was called Motherland Defense. This subject aims to provide schoolchildren with knowledge to defend Ukraine. The updated program contains information on the provision of pre-medical care, terrain orientation, and mine safety. As stated in the Ministry of Education and Science: “And the skills of controlling UAVs are used by videographers, surveyors, archaeologists and many specialists in their professional activities”.

This is a continuation of the narrative promoted by Russian propagandists that Nazism reigns in Ukraine, to which children are taught from childhood, and the Russians are supposedly trying to save Ukrainians. Thus, Russia is trying to justify a full-scale invasion of Ukrainian territory. Previously, we refuted the fake that in the Azov children's camp children read Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf.

Fake Hamas recorded a video expressing gratitude to Zelenskyi for providing weapons

Anonymous telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric are disseminating information that representatives of the Hamas group allegedly recorded a video thanking Volodymyr Zelenskyi for the transferred weapons, which help resist Israel. It's fake.

Fact-checkers at the Center for Countering Disinformation analyzed the video and determined that it was fake. It is this video that is being distributed by Russian propaganda resources and fake foreign accounts, the time and place of filming are unknown. Moreover, the video cannot be verified because Hamas representatives have their faces covered.

Thus, Russian propaganda is trying to discredit the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and reduce the assistance of Western partners. This is a continuation of the disinformation campaign about Ukrainian weapons in the hands of Hamas. Previously, Detector Media refuted the fake that Ukraine sells weapons to Hamas and debunked the fake that Hamas militants use weapons from Mukachevo.

Fake “If Ukraine loses the war, it will be because of the Jews”, Zelenskyi said

Propagandists spreading pro-Russian rhetoric on social networks claim that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi allegedly said that “if Ukraine loses the war, it will be because of the Jews”. This is a fake.

Analysts of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security Council of Ukraine and the Georgian MythDetector project drew attention to it. They found out that the circulated quote is a fake, because it cannot be found either on the official pages of the President, or in Ukrainian or Western mass media. On the contrary, Zelenskyi condemned the actions of Hamas and drew parallels between the current events in Israel and the Russian-Ukrainian war. He condemned terrorism and emphasized Israel's right to self-defense.

By spreading such fakes, propagandists want to convince Ukrainians that after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, Western countries will redirect the aid intended for Ukraine to Israel and Ukraine will not have the support of the international community.  Detector Media explained how propagandists still manipulate the topic of events in Israel.

Fake The morale and psychological state of the Armed Forces is assessed as low, Zaluzhnyi approved the report

Propagandists spreading pro-Russian rhetoric on social networks publish a scan of a document allegedly in the name of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi. In it, the moral and psychological state of the Armed Forces is assessed as low. However, this document is a fake.

The analysts of the Center of Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine drew attention to it. They found that the “document” contained a large number of grammatical errors. In addition, the text has a characteristic Russian-language tracing paper and a style uncharacteristic of documents. Moreover, the margin between the main text and the official's signature has been increased by 1.5-2 times. That is, part of the main text is hidden or deleted.

By spreading such fakes, propagandists want to demoralize the Armed Forces of Ukraine and cause panic among the civilian population. He said that terrible things are happening to the psyche of the military, and therefore, you have to agree to Russia's terms and start living normally. In this way, the Russians manipulate the important topic of mental health of veterans, turning it into a scarecrow for Ukrainians. Detector Media has already written about how Russia devalues the topic of mental health during the war in general.

Fake Ukrainians are being prepared for the rapid mobilization of teenagers

Propagandists who spread pro-Russian rhetoric in the media claim that the “Kyiv regime” is allegedly preparing Ukrainians for the rapid mobilization of teenagers from the age of 14 due to the lack of reserves destroyed on all front lines. This is allegedly indicated by the fact that the instructors of the 103rd Territorial defense force brigade  arrived on the territory of one of the Ukrainian educational centers, where they taught teenagers military training for three weeks, after which the most capable students were allegedly enrolled in the brigade reserve. However, this is a fake.

The analysts of the Center of Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine drew attention to it. They explained that this information is fiction, because according to the current legislation of Ukraine, persons who have reached the age of 18 are subject to mobilization. At the same time, there are military training courses for young people in Ukraine. They are not mandatory and are not prohibited by law.

Fake Diia published an article explaining why Nazism is normal

Propagandists spreading pro-Russian rhetoric on social media are posting images purporting to have published an article on the Diia website explaining why Nazism is normal. The title on it looks like “Why are Ukrainian fighters who fought on the side of the Nazis our heroes? Special material about fighters for Ukrainian independence who made a brave choice in the war”. The propagandists add that these publications on the website allegedly appeared after the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi in the Parliament of Canada greeted a veteran of the SS division Galicia, which was part of the Waffen SS troops of Nazi Germany. However, this is a fake.

Analysts of the VoxCheck project drew attention to it. They found out that there are no articles about soldiers who fought on the side of the Nazis in the “news” section on the Diia website after the “education” request. In addition, the published photo is dated September 25, but in fact, this section contains posts dated September 4 and 26, and they do not mention the Ukrainian military. The design of the site, the “education” section and the articles in it also differ from those in the image of the propagandists. The site only publishes news related to the Action application or digitization, so it is unlikely that an article on a historical topic will appear on it.

The inauthenticity of this message is also indicated by errors in the text. In particular, the phrase “awarded with applause” and the expression “it is important to look at many things” are inherent in the Russian language. Also, the authors made a mistake and used the word “beat” instead of the verb “struggle” in the phrase “fought against Soviet oppression”. It also has the capital letter that begins the word “Soviet” but it is a common name, not a proper name, in this sentence.

By spreading such fakes, propagandists want to reinforce negative stereotypes about Ukrainians. Like, they are ready to glorify the Nazis even on the website of a technological application for document management. In this way, the Russians justify their aggression against Ukraine, namely, they create a false need for “denazification”. Detector Media has repeatedly refuted fakes, messages and manipulations in which Russians manipulated the topic of Nazism.

Fake Ukrainian female refugees in Germany began to have children from Turks in order to obtain citizenship

Propagandists spreading pro-Russian rhetoric in the media claim that allegedly Ukrainian female refugees in Germany began to give birth to children from the Turks, without waiting for their men from the front to receive German citizenship. Like, an article about this was published on the Deutsche Welle website. However, this is fake.

Analysts from the Georgian project MythDetector drew attention to it. They found out that the original material for the publication by the author Olena Diuzhyna mentioned the demographic situation in Germany, where the proportion of children has increased significantly. Ukrainian refugees are also mentioned in this article, but in a different context. In particular, Germany has accepted more than a million Ukrainian refugees since February 24, 2022, most of whom are Ukrainian children.

By spreading such fakes, propagandists want to discredit Ukrainian refugees. Like, none of them wants to return home. However, this is not so - according to the material of the portal Word and Deed, 62% of Ukrainian refugees stated their desire to return to Ukraine in the future. Detector Media has already talked about the ways in which Russia is trying to humiliate Ukrainian refugees abroad.

Fake Ukrainian aviation is completely destroyed

American pro-Kremlin “expert” Scott Ritter, a former UN Armaments Inspector in Iraq, in an interview with journalist Garland Nixon, said that Russia’s high-tech air defense systems were able to completely destroy Ukrainian aviation. According to him, every time a Ukrainian plane, for example, a MiG-29, takes off, it is immediately shot down. Ritter also emphasized that the destruction of enemy aircraft gives the Russian army a great advantage. This is one of the important factors that makes a Russian military offensive possible.

Colleagues from the StopFake project began checking information about the “total liquidation” of Ukrainian aviation. When researching this topic, the fact-checkers referred to the Dutch independent project Oryx, which daily updates the loss of military equipment in Ukraine and Russia. According to it, as of October 27, Ukraine had lost 77 aircraft, while Russia had lost 93 aircraft during the war. For security reasons, Ukraine does not disclose information about the number of its combat aircraft, but at the end of March 2023, another propagandist Oleksandr Khramchykhin wrote that at that time Ukraine had about 350 combat aircraft remaining. Considering this, as well as the fact that Khramchykhin could very likely have underestimated the figures, it can be argued that Ukrainian aviation still did not suffer “crushing losses” on the battlefield during the war. In addition, in 2024, Ukraine's allies will begin delivering F-16 fighters to more effectively fight Russia.

Although Scott Ritter held high positions at the end of the 20th century, already in 2012 he was sent to prison on charges of pedophilia. In 2014 he was released. Since 2019, he has been collaborating with the Russian channel RT and has been making propaganda statements ever since. We previously wrote about how Ritter accused Ukraine of war crimes in Bucha.

Fake In Odesa, authorities are destroying traces of US military biological laboratories

Pro-Russian resources are disseminating information that the burial ground in Odesa was allegedly used to dispose of hazardous waste associated with the activities of US military biological laboratories. They say this was discovered during the neutralization of 147 tons of dust that had accumulated due to the fact that a ship sank near Odesa in 1979. Already today, local authorities have decided to cover up the traces of their activities instead.

The fact-checkers of the VoxUkraine project decided to investigate this case. They found out that on October 20, 2023, work on the disposal of 147 tons of dust near Odesa actually began. In 1972, the Mozdok ship sank in the Gulf of Odesa, containing 900 tons of dust on board. Two years later, a storage facility was built near the village of Altestove, and the dust was preserved in concrete bunkers. Already in 2012, most of the chemicals were disposed of, but due to lack of funding, 147 tons of waste continued to be stored in storage. Over the years, local residents felt the stench, and chemicals penetrated the soil and poisoned the Khadzhibey Estuary. This year, funds were allocated from the local budget to eliminate hazardous substances due to fears that Russian shelling could lead to the release of chemicals into water and soil. The liquidators got to work on time, as some bags of poison were already on the verge of depressurization.

Russian propagandists are spreading fake news about American biological laboratories in Ukraine and discrediting the Biological Threat Reduction Program, in which Ukraine has been participating since 2005 and of which Russia was a participant until 2014. This program operates within the framework of another – the general program of joint threat reduction. Russian propaganda uses tactics of demonizing the enemy, claiming that in Ukraine there are biological laboratories with dangerous substances, the purpose of which is to harm Russia.

Fake Scientific workers of Ukraine are subject to conscription during mobilization

Such information was disseminated on social networks, in particular, on telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric. The reports say that an illegal “mobilization of scientific staff” is allegedly being carried out in Ukraine - and add to the publications a video from an eyewitness who says that her comrade was allegedly forcibly taken to the local territorial recruitment and social support center. And that person is a historian and supposedly teaches in a higher education institution. The authors sum up: no one can fight in Ukraine, it doesn’t need smart people, so everyone is being raked into the “Zelenskyi meat grinder”. It is not true.

Research workers, scientific-pedagogical and pedagogical workers are not subject to conscription for military service during mobilization. According to the amendments to Article 23 of the Law “On Scientific and Scientific-Technical Work” dated July 29, 2022, they are not subject to conscription, provided that this category of people works in scientific institutions and organizations, institutions of higher education, professional higher education, professional (vocational and technical) or general secondary education (at the main place of work with at least 0.75 rates of their salary).

Moreover, the heroine in the video did not provide any evidence, photo or video evidence confirming the arbitrary behavior of employees of the local territorial recruitment and social support center towards the man. Yet, cases where employees of territorial centers exceed their authority are still recorded. We are talking, in particular, about the use of physical force against those liable for military service. But the woman simply spread information and in no way confirmed either the thesis about the use of violence against the scientist, or the fact that, in general, a higher education worker was hypothetically mobilized.

Fake 14/88 - a Ukrainian refugee painted Nazi symbols on residential buildings in Germany

A story allegedly from the European media Euronews is being spread on social networks in the Russian segment. It talks about the so-called 34-year-old Ukrainian refugee Petro Bondarenko, who was recently detained in Germany for committing a crime. He, according to the conclusions of the authors of the fake message, added the number 8 to houses with numbers 148. And then he divided the resulting number with the symbol / - thus forming the Nazi slogan 14/88. It is not true.

The VoxCheck project analysts investigated this case and found out that the news story about the Ukrainian refugee was compiled. At the same time, this news was also not found on the official Euronews website or on their pages on social networks. German media also did not come out with similar news.

In addition, the probable plot consists of numerous cuts of various videos that are not related to each other. For example, fakers used fragments of videos from different seasons, and this can be seen in the changes in natural phenomena: in one fragment, the leaves of the trees are green, and people are walking in light clothes while another part of the video depicts a completely different time of year, where people are dressed in warm clothes, and the leaves are no longer there, although, hypothetically, journalists cover events for one period of time, namely the moment of the “detention” of a Ukrainian refugee. The story also showed a law regulating the ban on the display of Nazi symbols in Germany, although in fact the propagandists illustrated the Australian law.

The image of the so-called Ukrainian refugee was used from the website “We face painting”, which published the photo back in 2011. Obviously, this photo has nothing to do with Ukraine.

Finally, propagandists are trying to show that Ukrainian refugees are supposedly a total threat to the sovereignty and security of EU countries. Russian propaganda, first of all, seeks to demoralize Ukrainian refugees in the eyes of Europeans and pass them off as supporters of Nazi ideology who are ready to resort to vandalism and violation of laws for their own purposes. All this contributes to a decrease in assistance to Ukraine from EU countries; and also leads to the victimization of Ukrainian refugees - when they are the only ones to blame for all the troubles.

We recommend reading our previous cases on this topic as the Kremlin systematically speculates on this:

- the Poles allegedly declared that they “don’t want to see” Ukrainian refugees in their country;

- how a Ukrainian refugee barista “showed off his Nazi inclinations” by seeming to paint Nazi symbols on his coffee.

And in our weekly review of disinformation, we talked on how propagandists lied about the mobilization of Ukrainian refugees in Europe.

Fake Ukrainian McDonald's offers McPie that “may contain the bones of Russian babies”

Such information was disseminated on social networks, in particular, on telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric. Reports say that the Ukrainian branch of McDonald's allegedly released a cherry McPie, the packaging of which states that the product “may contain the bones of Russian babies”. Photo evidence is added to publications. It's a lie.

The VoxCheck fact-checkers analyzed the case and came to the conclusion that the note about “Russian babies” was added in a photo editor. At the same time, McDonald’s did not change the packaging and recipes of the products; such information was not published either on the company’s official website or on their pages on social networks. Experts add that most likely the original source of the stuffing was Ukrainian users who jokingly distributed the photo on the social network X (formerly Twitter). But propagandists picked it up and passed it off as real McDonald's products.

At the same time, the photo itself has been edited. The checkers checked this fact using a special tool called FotoForensics. Moreover, the original font and the inscription “may contain bones” differ from the phrase “of Russian babies”, so it was simply superimposed using a special photo editor.

Fake Speaker of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sarah Ashton-Cirillo received a positive HIV test

In the Russian segment of the social network X (formerly Twitter), information is being spread that the speaker of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, allegedly received a positive test for HIV. Users of the social network allegedly refer to an article by Breitbart News, where they note that Sarah Ashton-Cirillo was previously under investigation due to accusations of pedophilia and rape of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It's fake.

The case was investigated by the fact-checker of the VoxCheck project. They found out that the article about HIV that Russian propaganda refers to is not on the website, social networks or web archive of Breitbart News. Moreover, the primary source of this publication is the Russian telegram channel. Breitbart News wrote an article that the speaker was suspended pending an investigation into her statements about Russian propagandists. So Russian propaganda created a fake photo based on this publication.

Moreover, the fact-checkers did not find information about the official being accused of pedophilia and rape. And HIV testing results are confidential, so if Sarah Ashton-Cirillo actually tested positive, the results would not be disclosed.

Thus, Russian propaganda is trying to discredit the speaker of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Troops Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, who belongs to the LGBTQ+ community. Russian propagandists nourish false information that LGBTQ+ people are the main carriers of HIV and AIDS, pedophiles and rapists. This is all part of a Russian campaign to discredit the LGBTQ+ community and Ukraine, which has allegedly moved away from traditional values. Previously, Detector Media published research on Russian LGBT disinformation on social networks and explained how Russian propaganda is trying to use LGBTQIA issues in the context of the war against Ukraine.

Fake The Estonian Council provides Ukrainian children with cash assistance in the amount of $250 for winter clothes

In the Ukrainian segment of Instagram, a video is being circulated with information that the Estonian Council allegedly provides financial assistance to children for winter clothes in the amount of $250. “Today, the Estonian Council provides assistance for winter clothes to all children in Ukraine who are under 10 years old (...) Or one can choose a box with clothes”. To receive it, you need to follow the link and fill out the form. It is not true.

The case was examined by the fact-checkers from the Brekhunets (The Liar) project. The page that distributed the video on Instagram has more than 20 thousand subscribers, and the link, where one can supposedly find a form to fill out, leads to the “Kyi City” telegram channel, which one needs to subscribe to.

Moreover, the fact-checkers checked the official information resources of the Estonian Refugee Council and determined that there was no such message. So, information about cash benefits from international organizations should be found on the organization’s official pages on social networks or on the official website.

Fake Fake information about teenage suicides in Kyiv is being spread online

On Ukrainian telegram, against the backdrop of the latest news about minors committing suicide in Kyiv, false information about such cases continues to spread. News about the alleged suicide of several teenagers in different areas of Kyiv appeared on October 24. It is not true.

The case was examined by the fact-checkers from the Center for Countering Disinformation. The National Police of the city of Kyiv on its official Facebook page called on the media and Telegram channels not to disseminate false information and not to abuse clickbait headlines, and to trust Ukrainians only to trusted sources.

“The Metropolitan Police immediately informs citizens about emergency events and crimes that may cause a stir among the population and is open to communication with the media”, the statement says.

Fake Ukrainian President Zelenskyi and Defense Minister Umierov gave consent to same-sex marriage in Ukraine

Russian telegram channels broadcasting pro-Kremlin rhetoric are disseminating information that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Defense Minister Rustem Umierov allegedly “gave consent to same-sex marriage in Ukraine”. Russian propaganda also reports that because of this decision, a “blue brigade” consisting of LGBT+ representatives will be created in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It is not true.

The case was examined by the fact-checkers from the Center for Strategic Communications and the BezBrekhni (No Lies) project. They note that Article 51 of the Constitution of Ukraine states that “marriage is based on the free consent of a woman and a man”. That is, the president cannot give permission for marriage, and the minister of defense has nothing to do with legislative initiatives.

Russian propaganda presents people belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community as something wrong, unacceptable, which is coming from the West. Russian propagandists justify a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by arguing that they are fighting for traditional values and protecting our country from Western propaganda of LGBT culture. Previously, we conducted a study of the Ukrainian segment of social networks, where we identified the key trends in rhetoric directed against LGBTQIA people and their sympathizers: “Homophobia in social networks: about values between Russian propaganda and Ukrainians’ disputes”.

Fake Ukraine should participate in the formation of the US state budget, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said

In the Russian segment of Facebook, a statement is being circulated allegedly by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba that Ukraine should participate in the formation of the US state budget for 2024. “As a country that relies on part of this budget in the form of military or other assistance, we have the right to participate in its discussion. We may not be satisfied with the numbers, and we should be able to influence the final decision”, Kuleba said. It's fake.

As the VoxCheck project specialists note, Dmytro Kuleba has never made such statements. On social networks, on the official pages of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, in authoritative Ukrainian and foreign media there is no mention that the Minister of Foreign Affairs spoke about this. Russian propaganda took this news from the satirical telegram channel “Here is my Yandex wallet” and spread it on social networks as regular news.

Thus, Russian propaganda is trying to discredit the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and turn Western partners against Ukraine, which could lead to a decrease in aid.
